I’ve stopped off in Sierra City overnight. I tried booking it yesterday: 23 miles by 1:45, but wasn’t able to get a hitch into town until after 2:00, missing the Post Office hours. Now I have to wait until 10 to pick up my resupply box. I passed a small fire on the way in, complete with circling planes and helicopters, but it looks like they were able to get it under control before it spread.

I’ve started getting up at 5:00 am to help with mileage and beating the daytime heat. Early morning hiking has been much more pleasant.
Next stop: Belden

5am! Wow that’s early:) but the cool mornings must be nice. We just got back from my birthday backpacking trip to the Sawtooth Mountains! I recommend skinny dipping to stay cool 😎
