Middle Washington is comparable to the Sierras, without the high elevation. Volcanic mountains have transitioned back to granite, meaning more impressive scenery, but also more difficult terrain. I’ve noted my mileage dropping into the lower 20’s, and I’ll need to reassess the next section so I don’t run out of food.

I feel I’m starting to wear down a bit. An extra zero might help, but the weather’s not going to get any better. Half the last section was socked in with clouds, with a couple of sunny days. Pain lingers for a little longer in the morning, but I think I’ve got enough left in the tank to finish up.

I want to thank all the readers who have joined me on this trip. I may hike by myself, but am never alone. If you have not yet done so, leave a hello or question in the comments section. I’ll compile a Q and A post at the end of the trip.
Upwards an onwards….

“Mileage dropping in the lower 20’s.” Just 4 months ago a 20+ mile day would have been record-breaking! I think we could use another selfie. I’m guessing you look like a cross between Bear Grylls and Rambo.
Amazing shots of the Pine Martin and Mtn goats. Impressive you were able to get so close. Are you sure you’re not a Disney princess?

Only 20 ish miles ehh, sounds like a number I could almost do! Hahahaha 😄
I have so many questions! How is the gear looking? How many pairs of shoes have you gone through? What is the shape of your sawyer squeeze? Did you finally find a sleeping pad that didn’t pop? When can we meet up for a beer? I will supply the beer, food, and chairs if you supply the stories 😎

What an astounding, incredible adventure. So close!!! Go Ben go. Please say hello to Cutthroat Peak and the Liberty Bell group as you hit highway 20 in the North Cascades for me. Some really good memories from that area.

So many questions! Gear you can or can’t live without? Music/podcast/audiobook or no? Tips for getting your mind back on track when mindset is in a downward spiral? Any scary animal (or human) encounters and how you handled it?
Can’t wait to hear of your adventures! I leave on 9/8, and watching your journey has certainly been inspirational!!
