The trek from Shelter Cove Resort to McKenzie pass was uneventful. I was able to meet Dayle in Sisters, who drove me up past Warm Springs to where the 26 crosses the PCT to get around he fire closures. From there it was 10 miles to Timberline Lodge, and another 45 miles to Cascade Locks.

Smoke remained problematic until Timberline, after which things cleared up. The main issue yesterday was the over 100 downed trees left over from a big storm last year, taking all day to manage 25 miles.
Like most PCT hikers, I took the alternate trail to the Columbia River Gorge, which passes several impressive water falls, including Tunnel Falls above.

This evening I’m prepping a couple of resupply boxes and will cross the Bridge of the Gods into Washington after mailing them. 500 miles left…
Through hiker vocabulary
Vortex: gravitational force causing hikers to linger in towns far longer than they intended. Example- The Horde (large PCT hiker group) got vortexed in Ashland, spending three zeros there.

3 zeros = gluttony
