Earlier I mentioned picking up the Ursack Major XL as my food bag for use in the non-Sierra sections, as bears and other critters are present in other parts of the trail as well. Above are a couple of videos on their proper use. It is recommended to use them with an OPSak, which is basically a giant, glorified Ziplock bag for odor resistance.
Note to self: Ursack is hung away from the tent.
- Major XL
- Weight: 8.8 oz
- Dimensions: 9.8 × 6.7 × 2.2 in
- Capacity: about 15 Liters (approx. 7+ days of food for 1 person)
- Cord: 6 foot–high tensile strength with reflective tracer

Sure the Ursack is bear resistance but is it Astro proof? Don’t think so ;{

Totally different topic, but what sleeping pad did you end up going with? I keep going back and forth on what I want. I THINK that’s my last important bikepacking purchase!
